PostSubject: Problem   Problem EmptySat Feb 20, 2010 12:01 am

I’m a 20 something golfer and play to a 21 handicap. I hit my t-shot 150 m when I hit it well, but the gals I play with aren’t near as good. ( high 120’s, 130’s) So we sometimes struggle to keep pace on the weekends if they get in trouble. They don’t play slow, just not that well and it is a very challenging course with lots of trouble! When I play with my husband I always hit from the white tees with him, but I feel bad doing so with my girlfriends as I don’t want to make us play slower. What do you think? Am I hurting my game playing from the red tees on the weekend and whites during the week? It is kind of fun to be able to reach the par 5’s in three on Saturdays. It’s very nice if any of you to answer questions like this.

Hi Van. Every golfer, male of female, has been a beginner at one point in time and started with a handicap over 36. Weekend golf is tough for any handicapper. If you are a high handicapper, you are pressured by the flight chasing you. If you are a low handicapper, patience is a scarce virtue when the flight in front interrupts the momentum of play.

We all play golf to enjoy ourselves, have some down time with buddies etc. You mentioned that you play on a tough course. As beginning golfers, I applaud you and your buddies for your persistence and perseverance. However, you also mention some challenges you and your buddies face regarding the pace of play because of the course conditions.

Hitting off black, blue, white or red is each golfer's prerogative and handicap. It's fine for you to tee-off white and your lady buddies, red. All things considered, would it be more enjoyable and achievable for your lady buddies to play at a less demanding course or play more during weekdays? You will be amazed how much more the golf is enjoyed when playing under very little pressure. Many of the courses in JB are literally deserted during weekdays.

Some recommendations (when playing off white or red):
Palm Villa
Ponderosa
Palm Resort
Orchard
Octville

I can honestly say that I only fully enjoyed playing golf over the last 3 years or so. Many years before that, scoring below 120 was a major achievement. My gauge of scoring back then was determined by how many balls I lost at each session. The norm was about 10.

Hi Sis Van, you are not hurting your game by playing red with your gal friends and playing white with your buddy......instead treat it like diff kind of challenge.

If you play hcp 21, I think you can shoot 90s from red. So in order to challenge yourself, you can aim for better score like low 90s. When playing from white, since the distance is longer, them aim slightly higher like shooting within + 5 strokes from yuor handicap......

When we play off diff colour markers, we always try to set diff goals for ourselves. My official hcp is around 14. By right I should be playing blue but I enjoy playing white, why.....because its so much easier to break 90 from white than blue Smile

Anyway, just remember on the golf course, we are out to enjoy ourselves.....and enjoy the scenary and of course enjoy the company. Like what Bro Fribriz says, move to a more relaxing course if its too pressure for your gal friends.

Enjoy. Oh do join us for games
