New research published in the British Medical Journal, and further quoted in the Wall Street Journal and other leading publications, shows that hitting the links for a round of golf provides the same health benefits as cycling for 100 miles.
The study, based on the mortality records of almost 10,000 athletes, also suggests that high cardiovascular intensity sports such as cycling and rowing do not provide additional longevity benefits compared with low cardiovascular intensity sports such as golf, and on the contrary may even be counterproductive beyond a certain threshold, such as 20 miles a week for running.
