| For those who are wondering where to start here are my two cents worth.... start by checking your PW loft first!, in most case it will be 45 to 47 loft, so the next wedge should be a 50-52, next will be the 54 - 58 and so forth..(4-5 degree seperation from each club)
As for most golfer, me included, I have PW of 46 degree, next wedge (aw) 50 degree bend from a 52 degree wedge(as it is difficult to find a 50 degree wedge) than a 54 degree wedge and lastly a 58 degree.
As for the bounce, it will depends on the golf course i play on,(bunker sand type and depth of sand first layer and how tight the fairway are being crop to be taken into consideration).
On that note, means i have 2 wedges of different bounce on the same loft... ie 50 degree loft with 10 and 12 bounce, 54 degree loft with 13 and 16 bounce and lastly the 58 degree with a 10 and 12 bounce.
I am not a fan of 60 degree, firstly the 58 are more versatile and easier to play with, as we use our wedges, we do or can open up the club face from 1 to 10 degree(or more) and that will effectively increase the loft, ie so all distance can be acheive to the exact yardage needed. The total weight of the wedges preferably be heavy as you can handle and the swing weight should be ideally of D4 to D6. Why total weight heavy? well as we swing our wedge, be it chipping, pitch or half shot, we need to be smooth and delibrate, so speed is not primary and weight will push it through the rough or sand.
But than again, personal preference will be the first choice, no hard and fast rule ya! since wedges are versatile by itself! and imagination on the shot itself is the key to result needed!
Cheers!
andrew

Now i know why all my wedges so heavy. I guess when playing MBGC, better to bring a 60.

| AndrewLow68: Great article! I have a PW that is 47 degrees, a GW (52), a SW (56) and a LW (60). So should I swap out the PW for a 48 degrees? I seldom use my LW, except for specific situations. I hit my PW slightly less than 100m, about 90 - 95m. Btw, would you mind revealing what wedges you are using? Or your WITB for that matter? | |

| Andrew, I have a 53 and 58 Mizuno MPT. I was thinking bending the 53 to 52 because I wasn't getting the gap distance that I wanted. I was hoping that the 53 will get the distance that I wanted which was 80-90m but half the time, I got short. like 70 or less. Should I proceed to bend it to 52? Is there any concerns when the loft gap between 52 and 58? | |

| Distance for 58 is about 50-60m, PW is 100m. I hit the 53 marginally longer than 58. I know it shouldn't be the case but it seems happen like that - at times it is at 70m, the others, it goes short. Just very inconsistent feel with the 53 than of the 58. Of all the occasions, I cannot recall if I have ever hit 53 anywhere near 80-90m, unless i topped it. | |

| 58*= 50-55m
PW= 100m
so 53*= 75-80m.....shd be if everything is constant
80-90m= PW 3/4 swing lor.....
but 1* loft wont give u 10m distance lah!!!

Khorkar bro, bending your 53 to 52 no problem! just your bounce will reduce by 1 degree only! But your 52 to 58 might be a tat too much difference, get a 56 degree will be better. If you want to flop like Phil M. get a "c" grind, so if u open face of 56 the bounce will still be low enough to nip it off tight lies!.

Ha ha, Ben bro, not necessary callaway! I use callaway because the leading edge is slightly curve or rounded which is pleasing to my eyes. Where straight leading edge wedges always make me feel i am opening too much and club face seem to point too much to the right. So it just my personal preference again. Pan west is selling their new x series jaws for $156 or $159. Guys remember to adjust(flatten or upright)the lie of your wedge to get the full potential, many tends to forget the importance of lie angle of each clubs to the individual golfer! As most irons are too upright for us asian though it is standard lie.(esp usa spec) Enjoy the shot game!

| With different lofts of the wedge.. its also good to practise getting the different distances on a wedge. This will definitely improve your short game within the 100m range. Eg, high 60m shot if bunker infront, or low 60m shot with trees infront. Like what Andrewlow68 always preaches... use one wedge around the greens, and you got to increase your variety of shots with one wedge. For me, I only have a 52(Geotech) and 56 (Fourteen compliments from Andrew) which i think its more than enough. | |
