| Hi UL Just talk talk for fun. I bought a 60degree wedge 10 years ago but have difficulty controlling it, so I left it aside. Recently I bought a new one hoping that 10 years of technical advancement will make it easier but unfortunately I did not count on 10 years of deterioration of the player(me), so I am not better off now with this new 60 degreee club. The theory of the 60 degree is to be able to play a high lop short near the pin without the ball rolling away too much or imparting a back spin. You can do that with any wedge by openning the club face. But openning the club face by how much? can be a difficult decision. Right now my 60 degree only add weight to my golf bag. I think your 58 degree can be better than a 60 degree if you us it well. If you can consistantly land on the green on regulation, than start thinking of how you can make your ball stay next to the pin, otherwise you will be carrying dead weight in your bag like me. | |

| UL.....
A 60 deg wedge is usually used in situation where you have no other choice but to execute a high loft shot. Therefore, it is a high risk shot around the green, if you are not able to execute well.
Usually a good player will not use it if you have other low risk alternatives. However, its good to have one when the situation arises, but a lot of practise is needed lah....
Good to use in thick rough!

| I remembered once where my ball was on the tip/shoulder of a bunker, infront of it was a 3-4m tree blocking the fairway. Taking out my 60deg WMD, I swing it with full ecstasy and the ball flew over the tree and lands on the fairway. That was one of my proudest moments.
Simply love it! | |

| I agree... 60 deg wedge... depends on the bounce vis a vis the surface we are hitting from... must be spongy surface for me... else, i rather hit a 3/4 SW usually I just use the 60 deg for bunker shot another thing is... LW, you cannot force it... a smooth tempo swing will do. everytime I try to give it some omph, I will either top it or chunked it | |

| yes UL, i usually get out of green side bunker with 60 deg cos it comes out higher and runs lesser... for longer bunker shots then I use 56 deg. try it out on course... 60 deg is live saver for me! | |

| UL, Since you already have a 58 deg, I don't think you will need the 60 deg. Just open a little and it will be the same. Moreover, the situation which call for a 60 deg wedge may not be very often.
Personally I don't recommend use of 60 deg wedge for 50-60m approach becos like most of us already knew, it is very difficult to control distance, you hit a little harder, it goes sky high, hit a little soft it falls short. It is good for around green, like bunker, deep rough, etc.

| Great advice...Bro Neutralgolfer...Between a 58 n 60 deg wedge... There isn't really much difference...I would think at least 4 deg difference will be idea... I think using the 60 deg wedge is very much a personnal preference... Some golfers can do well with it chipping on to the green regularly..most of us will use pw, 8 or 9 irons for a lower pounce...however the 60 deg wedge is great on bunker shots when you have very little green to work... Don't have to open the club face as it has enough loft to do the job.. another usage as mentioned..on deep rough and over bunker. Bro Neutral Golfer.. may I have your view on chippin near and around green.. your club face square, slightly open or slightly close...I find it..when I close my club face slightly.. I can do it more consistenly and accurately... | |

Hi VR, by default of course square is better becoz it will go to the direction of where you aim. A little open or close will deviate your accuracy depending on how much is open/close. Nonetheless, due to different individual swing characteristics, if the close face work for you, please continue to use it. I am not a Pro, but hope this helps.
